Recently in the UK they have been testing over 5,000 meat products that were labeled as beef but may have contained more horse meat than actually beef product inside. So far they have found only 29 meat products that have contained more horse meat which have come from 5 different distributers, 15 of these 29 positive tested products came from Findus, a popular frozen food distributor, most of the horse meat products found in their lasagna products. Personally I find this topic completely disgusting, I personally would like to know what I am eating when I am eating and this just makes you question what you are eating and there really isn’t anyway for you to know if companies are telling you the truth about what is in their products. This can cause so many issues including health and with their business as well. If someone were to buy their product and were allergic to what was in your food and the company didn’t put that on the box, they could sue them and it would ruin their company because in all honesty who in their right mind would want to buy that product? I personally wouldn’t, I would like to know what is going in to my mouth and if it is not listed on the back, then I don’t want to buy from your company and I am sure that many others feel the same. I am sure that with this accusation that business for them has gone down, which makes me wonder why they would do it in the first place? If you know that it is a possibility to get caught and you know that it would ruin your companies name then why would you do it? In general I think this has brought to attention what people are actually eating when they buy frozen foods, it is just like when people found out that they were using dolphin in tuna in the past few years. This should be a warning to people to read the labels on the products they buy to make sure they know what they are eating. (356)
